Neisson is the smallest of Martinique's remaining distilleries, and many agricole purists consider it the finest. The family-owned estate grows its own blue cane variety, distils exclusively in a copper pot still — unusual for agricole, which typically uses column stills — and ages in French oak. The result is a rum of exceptional purity and character.

The Réserve Spéciale is aged for a minimum of four years, and the copper pot distillation gives it a roundness and depth that column-distilled agricoles sometimes lack. The estate-grown blue cane adds a distinctive sweetness and intensity of sugarcane character.

On the nose, expect candied peel, marmalade, white pepper, roasted hazelnut, fresh sugarcane, and faint smokiness. The palate is clean and precise with fresh cane character, vanilla, dried herbs, citrus peel, gentle oak spice, and a silky texture. The finish is long and elegant.

Outstanding neat. The purity of expression makes this one of the finest agricoles available. A bottle for rum enthusiasts who value authenticity above all else.

Freya Lindqvist VIPsAllowed - Small distillery, big flavour
9/10

Neisson is one of Martinique's smallest distilleries and arguably its finest. The Réserve Spéciale has a beautiful balance of fresh cane character with ageing — vanilla, dried fruit, gentle oak, and a distinctive floral note. The cane is brighter and more lifted than J.M or Clément. Exceptional.

7/10

The rum is excellent — bright cane character, floral notes, well-judged ageing with vanilla and oak. But Neisson's small production means bottles are difficult to source outside of Martinique and specialist retailers. When I find one, I savour it. Just wish it were more available.

9/10

While Clément and J.M get most of the attention, Neisson quietly produces some of the finest rhum on the island. The Réserve Spéciale is their calling card — bright cane, floral aromatics, elegant ageing, and a finish of extraordinary complexity. A distillery that deserves far more recognition.

8/10

Neisson grows its own blue cane on the northern slopes of Martinique and you can taste the care. The Réserve Spéciale has a purity and vibrancy — bright cane, floral aromatics, vanilla, oak — that mass-produced rhum can't match. Small-batch quality at its finest.

Clara Johansson VIPsAllowed - The best agricole on the market
10/10

Neisson Réserve Spéciale is, for my money, the finest rhum agricole available. The balance is extraordinary — grassy cane, floral notes, vanilla, dried fruit, gentle oak — every element in perfect harmony. The finish is long, complex, and deeply satisfying. Worth every centimetre of shelf space.

9/10

Neisson's use of blue sugarcane (canne bleue) from their own fields creates a distinctive spirit. The Réserve Spéciale captures that character beautifully — bright, grassy, with a floral elegance that's enhanced rather than hidden by the oak ageing. Vanilla, dried fruit, and a long mineral finish.

Luna Chavez VIPsAllowed - Floral agricole beauty
8/10

What distinguishes Neisson is a floral quality — almost like orange blossom — that adds an extra dimension to the typical agricole profile. The ageing brings vanilla, caramel, and gentle spice, while the fresh cane character remains vibrant. A rhum of real delicacy.
