First Impressions
Paraguay is not a country most people associate with rum, which makes Papagayo an immediate curiosity. Add the organic certification — one of very few organic white rums available — and you have something genuinely unusual. It's the kind of bottle that deserves exploration simply for being different.
Tasting Notes
The nose is clean and straightforward. Sugar cane and green grass lead, with gentle citrus and light floral notes. It's fresh and uncluttered. On the palate, it's light and clean, with sugar cane sweetness and gentle grassiness suggesting a cane juice or minimally processed base. Citrus zest and mineral freshness add interest.
The finish is short and clean, with grassy fade and gentle sweetness.
How to Drink It
Mix it. Daiquiris and Mojitos work well — the organic, cane-forward character adds a slightly different dimension to standard cocktails. The price and ABV make it a practical everyday mixing rum.
The Bottom Line
Papagayo earns a 6 — it's a clean, well-made organic white rum from an unexpected origin. At £26, it's reasonably priced, and the organic credentials give it a point of difference. Interesting rather than exceptional, but that's enough.
