Planteray XO 20th Anniversary is a double-aged Barbadian rum — first matured for eight to fifteen years in bourbon casks in the tropical heat of Barbados, then shipped to southwest France for up to ten additional years of continental maturation in ex-Ferrand Cognac casks. The dual climate approach produces a rum of remarkable complexity.
The tropical ageing concentrates the spirit rapidly, while the cooler French maturation smooths and refines it. The Cognac cask influence adds a vinous, oaky depth that Caribbean-only maturation cannot achieve. Bottled at 40%.
The nose is deep: vanilla, ripe banana, roasted coconut, cocoa, and mango. The palate is smooth and velvety — rich chocolate, hazelnut, walnut, orange and grapefruit peel, and caramel. The Cognac cask influence is evident in the refined structure.
The finish is long and complex — coconut cream, sarsaparilla, and lingering spice. A rum that bridges Caribbean tradition and French refinement, and one of the most accessible premium expressions on the market.
