First Impressions
This 12-year-old Saint James was selected and bottled by Habitation Velier as part of the Magnum Photography Series, featuring label art from Magnum Photos. The rum itself is exceptional — a well-aged Martinique agricole that showcases what Saint James can achieve when given time.
Tasting
The nose is refined and mature. Aged sugarcane retains its identity, with dried tropical fruit and polished oak adding complexity. Vanilla softens things, and the overall character is elegantly Martinique.
The palate is elegant and complex. Aged sugarcane and dried fruit form the core, oak spice provides warmth, vanilla adds sweetness, and the Martinique character is sophisticated and well-developed. At 45%, it's balanced and accessible.
The finish is long with oak, sugarcane, dried fruit, and a refined close.
The Bottom Line
At £145, Saint James 2010 offers premium Martinique agricole quality at a fair price. The twelve years of ageing have produced a rum of genuine sophistication, and Velier's curation ensures excellence. A beautiful bottle in every sense.
