Banks 5 Island is one of the most ambitious white rums on the market. Created by the late Arnaud de Trabuc, it blends twenty-one different rums from five distinct origins: Jamaica (for funk and fruit), Trinidad (for lightness), Barbados (for balance), Guyana (for depth), and Java (for an exotic, floral dimension). The result is a rum of remarkable complexity that manages to be both accessible and deeply rewarding.
At 43% ABV, it has a touch more weight than standard-strength whites, giving it presence in cocktails without being aggressive. The blending is intricate — each component is selected for what it contributes to the whole, and the final spirit has a harmony that belies its complexity.
On the nose, there is green mango, lime zest, coconut, white flowers, and a hint of grassy agricole freshness. The palate is lively and layered with tropical fruit, citrus peel, light molasses sweetness, coconut water, and subtle earthy depth. The finish is clean and bright with lingering tropical fruit and gentle spice.
An outstanding cocktail rum that brings character to any serve. Particularly impressive in a Daiquiri or a Hemingway Special.
