Chairman's Reserve is produced by St. Lucia Distillers, one of the Caribbean's most fascinating operations. The distillery operates both a traditional Coffey column still and two heritage pot stills — a Vendôme and a John Dore — producing markedly different rum styles that are then blended to create expressions of unusual complexity.
The Chairman's Reserve blend combines column still rum (clean, light, and elegant) with pot still rum from both the Vendôme (fruity and medium-bodied) and the John Dore (heavy, funky, and richly characterful). The result is a rum that punches well above its weight in terms of complexity.
On the nose, expect ripe banana, vanilla, toffee, coconut, gentle baking spice, and a hint of tropical fruit funk. The palate is medium-bodied with caramel, banana, light chocolate, vanilla, warm spice, and a touch of Creole pot still character. The finish is medium-long with warmth and gentle spice.
Excellent neat, on the rocks, or in a Rum Old Fashioned. A superb introduction to the diversity of Caribbean rum-making.
