Diplomático Single Vintage represents the most serious expression from the Venezuelan house. Where the Reserva Exclusiva is lush and sweet, the Single Vintage is drier, more complex, and significantly more refined. Distilled entirely in copper pot stills (batch kettles) and aged for a minimum of twelve years, this is a rum that silences the critics who dismiss Diplomático as merely sweet.
Each release is from a single vintage year, giving the rum a specificity and character that blended expressions cannot replicate. The pot still distillation produces a richer, more characterful base spirit, and the extended ageing in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks adds layers of complexity.
On the nose, expect dark cherry, old leather, cedar, dark chocolate, espresso, dried apricot, and sandalwood. The palate is exceptionally smooth with dark fruit, cocoa, tobacco, vanilla, and coffee. The finish is very long with cocoa, tobacco, and a refined farewell.
