If the El Dorado 12 is Guyana's calling card, the 15 Year Old is its masterpiece. Three additional years in tropical oak ageing add a significant step up in complexity, depth, and tannin structure. The result is a rum that moves firmly into contemplative sipping territory — a spirit demanding attention and rewarding it handsomely.
The blend draws from an even wider selection of Demerara's heritage stills, and the longer maturation allows the different marques to integrate more fully. At 43% ABV, it has a touch more presence than the 12, and the extra strength carries the flavours with greater authority.
On the nose, expect dark chocolate, dried mango, polished mahogany, vanilla bean, tobacco, and dried cherry. The palate is rich and luxurious with dark chocolate, dried tropical fruit, toffee, coffee, leather, and a silky, full-bodied texture. The finish is very long with cocoa, dried fruit, and a warm, spiced farewell.
Sip neat in a Glencairn glass. This is a rum for quiet evenings and unhurried contemplation. At £42.00, it remains extraordinary value.
