First Impressions
Another offering from Fair Spirits, this time from Otisa distillery in Paraguay. Matured for between two and five years in oak, it's a bold rum with an earthy character that reflects its South American origins. Paraguay is not a typical rum origin, which adds curiosity value.
Tasting Notes
The nose is dark and earthy. Vanilla and coffee lead, with prunes and oak adding depth. Dark caramel and earthy notes provide a distinctly Paraguayan character. On the palate, richness and boldness define the experience — vanilla depth, coffee bitterness, and prune sweetness create a complex profile. Oak tannins and earthy character add distinction.
The finish is medium, with coffee and prune fading to a dry oak close.
How to Drink It
Neat over ice, or in cocktails where the bold, earthy character adds interest. Pairs well with dark chocolate.
The Bottom Line
Fair Paraguay earns a 6 — bold and earthy with genuine South American character. At £40, the price is slightly high for a relatively young rum, but the unusual origin and flavour profile add value for explorers.
