Havana Club 3 Años: The Benchmark Cuban White
White 40% ABV ABV San José DistilleryDecent but unremarkable
It's fine. Does the job in a Mojito but I find it a bit thin when sipped neat. The vanilla and light citrus notes are pleasant enough but there's not a lot going on. I'd reach for something with more body for a Daiquiri.
Punches well above its price
I've done blind tastings with white rums at twice the price and Havana Club 3 always holds its own. The brief barrel ageing gives it a complexity that purely unaged rums just can't match. Soft vanilla, a whisper of oak, clean sugarcane sweetness. Brilliant value.
Reliable and consistent
Every bottle tastes the same, which is what you want from a mixing rum. Light body, gentle vanilla and almond notes, clean dry finish. It won't change your life but it'll make a very good cocktail every single time.
The real Cuban Mojito experience
Spent two weeks in Havana and this was in every bar. There's a reason — the light sweetness, the hint of toasted oak from the brief ageing, and that clean finish make it the perfect Mojito base. Bring a bottle back every time I visit.
Cuban character at a fair price
For the money, this is hard to beat. Three years of ageing then charcoal-filtered back to clarity gives it a smoothness you don't get from unaged white rums. There's a subtle vanilla and pear note on the nose, with a clean, slightly sweet palate. Classic Cuban rum.
Solid cocktail workhorse
Havana Club 3 is my go-to for Mojitos and Daiquiris. Light and crisp with a gentle sweetness from the sugarcane, a hint of vanilla, and a clean finish. It doesn't try to be anything fancy — just a well-made white rum that lets the other ingredients in your cocktail shine.
Best white rum for the money
I keep coming back to this after trying fancier options. The three-year ageing and filtration process gives it just enough character — soft vanilla, a touch of dried fruit, clean sugarcane — without any harshness. Perfect for Daiquiris, Mojitos, or just on the rocks with a lime wedge.
