First Impressions
Myers's Reserve Dark Rum is made exclusively from Jamaican molasses-based rums, produced from both continuous and pot still distillation and aged for up to four years. It sits as the entry point in the Myers's range, offering a more approachable experience than the Original Blend while retaining that distinctive Jamaican character.
Tasting
The nose opens with caramel and dark molasses — classic dark rum territory. Dried banana and brown sugar add tropical sweetness, vanilla provides softness, and there's a hint of that Jamaican funk that gives the rum personality without being overpowering.
The palate is smoother and more rounded than you might expect at this price. Caramel and dark chocolate lead, with ripe banana and nutmeg adding dimension. The Jamaican ester character is gentle but present — enough to distinguish this from generic dark rums without alienating newcomers. At 43%, it's easy-drinking with decent body.
The finish is medium with caramel, warm spice, and a clean dark sugar close. No rough edges, no unpleasant surprises.
The Bottom Line
At £31.75, Myers's Reserve is a solid introduction to Jamaican dark rum. It makes an excellent mixer, particularly in cola or ginger beer, and has enough character to sip neat without apology. Good value for genuine Jamaican quality.
