Plantation OFTD — Old Fashioned Traditional Dark — is a collaborative creation between Alexandre Gabriel of Maison Ferrand and a panel of internationally renowned bartenders. The brief was to create the ultimate overproof cocktail rum: something with enough power and flavour to stand up in any tiki drink while maintaining drinkability and balance.
The blend draws from three Caribbean origins: Barbados (from the West Indies Rum Distillery for smoothness), Jamaica (from Long Pond and Clarendon for funk and fruit), and Guyana (from Demerara for depth and weight). At 69% ABV, it is a formidable spirit.
On the nose, expect dense molasses, dark chocolate, coffee, burnt caramel, overripe banana, and dried fruit. The palate is massive and chewy with treacle, dark chocolate, espresso, tropical fruit, and an almost syrupy richness. The finish is extremely long with coffee and molasses.
This was designed for cocktails, and in a Zombie or Navy Grog it is transformative. The 69% ABV means a little goes a long way. Handle with respect and enormous pleasure.
