Rhum J.M is one of Martinique's great agricole producers, and the VSOP is its most compelling aged expression. The distillery sits at the northernmost tip of Martinique, in the shadow of Mont Pelée — the volcano that devastated the town of Saint-Pierre in 1902. The volcanic soil, the tropical microclimate, and the estate-grown sugarcane combine to produce a rum of extraordinary terroir expression.
Distilled using a traditional Creole column still and aged for a minimum of four years in new French oak and re-charred bourbon barrels, the VSOP has an intensity and depth that sets it apart from many of its peers. The volcanic spring water used throughout the production process adds a distinctive mineral quality.
On the nose, expect intense fresh sugarcane, dried herbs, saddle leather, vanilla, roasted cocoa, tropical fruit, and volcanic mineral notes. The palate is bold and characterful with herbaceous sugarcane, dark chocolate, coffee, toasted oak, dried tropical fruit, and black pepper. The finish is long and complex.
Sip neat or in a Ti Punch. The intensity and complexity make this an agricole for serious rum enthusiasts. Outstanding.
