Ron Zacapa XO Centenario takes everything that makes the 23 impressive and elevates it further. The solera system here extends to rums aged between six and twenty-five years, and the finishing stage involves French oak cognac casks that add an additional dimension of sophistication and complexity.
The high-altitude ageing continues to be the defining characteristic. At 2,300 metres, the slow, patient maturation produces a spirit of extraordinary smoothness — the rough edges have been entirely resolved by time and oak, leaving only pure, concentrated flavour.
On the nose, expect a masterclass in complexity: old library books, polished mahogany, dried mango, vintage port, dark honey, and sandalwood. The palate is incredibly refined with layers of aged marmalade, sandalwood, vanilla orchid, dried cherry, dark chocolate, and a whisper of smoke. The finish is magnificently long with candied peel and old oak.
Sip neat. This rum asks nothing of you except time and attention, and it repays both generously. A genuine luxury spirit at a fair price.
