First Impressions
Veritas is a collaboration that reads like a rum enthusiast's fantasy. Foursquare — Barbados's most acclaimed distillery — provides Coffey column still rum, while Hampden — Jamaica's legendary funk factory — contributes pot still rum. The two are blended with absolutely nothing else added. The result is a white rum of extraordinary character and complexity that has become the benchmark for serious cocktail bartenders.
Tasting Notes
The nose is immediately exciting. Tropical fruit esters burst from the glass — mango, passion fruit, and ripe banana. Vanilla provides a smooth foundation, white pepper adds spark, and there's a slight hogo funk from the Hampden component that adds authentic Jamaican character. Citrus brightness rounds things out.
On the palate, this is a revelation in what white rum can be. Bright tropical fruit hits first, followed by Jamaican ester funk — that unmistakable, slightly overripe fruit character that divides opinion but delights enthusiasts. Barbadian smoothness from the Foursquare component provides balance and accessibility, while white pepper and citrus add structure. The depth of flavour is remarkable for a white rum — this has more complexity than many aged expressions.
The finish is medium-long, with tropical fruit and gentle funk lingering alongside a clean peppery close.
How to Drink It
This makes the finest Daiquiri you'll ever taste. Three-two-one — 60ml Veritas, 30ml lime juice, 15ml simple syrup. The complexity of the rum means the cocktail has depth and interest that basic white rums can't match. Also outstanding in a Ti' Punch or White Negroni variation.
The Bottom Line
Veritas earns an 8 — it's arguably the world's best white rum, and the pedigree of the two contributing distilleries is unmatched. At £39.50, it costs more than basic white rums, but the quality difference is enormous. If you care about your Daiquiris, this is the only white rum you need.
