Wray & Nephew White Overproof is not just a rum — it is a cultural institution. In Jamaica, this spirit outsells every other rum combined, and it is present at every celebration, every ceremony, and in countless home kitchens where it serves as much as a cooking ingredient as a drinking spirit. At 63% ABV, it is not a rum for the timid, but approach it with respect and it rewards with extraordinary character.

Produced at the Appleton and New Yarmouth estates using a combination of pot and column stills, Wray & Nephew's white overproof is a blend of light and heavy rums that creates a spirit of unusual depth for an unaged expression. The high ester count — a hallmark of Jamaican distillation — gives it an unmistakable funky, fruity character that sets it apart from every other white rum on the market.

On the nose, expect intense ester, overripe banana, pineapple, acetone brightness, stone fruit, and raw sugarcane. The palate delivers banana and pineapple with a fiery ethanol kick balanced by tropical fruit sweetness, raw sugarcane power, and ester-laden fruitiness. The finish is commanding and lingers for minutes.

Handle with respect. A few drops of water open up the complexity considerably. In cocktails, this is a Rum Punch rum — its power ensures the character is never lost in multi-ingredient drinks. It also makes an exceptional float on a Mai Tai.

At 63% this is serious stuff. The initial burn gives way to incredible flavours — banana, pineapple, tropical fruit galore, with that unmistakable Jamaican pot still funk. A teaspoon transforms any cocktail. Respect the proof and you'll be rewarded.

If you want to understand what Jamaican rum is all about, start here. 63% ABV of pure pot still funk — overripe banana, tropical fruit, a hit of ester-rich fire that's absolutely exhilarating. Essential in a Rum Punch and brilliant in a Daiquiri if you're brave enough.

The ester-rich character of Wray & Nephew is in a class of its own. Overripe banana, tropical fruit, a hint of nail varnish that somehow works beautifully. At 63% ABV it's a potent beast but just a half-measure transforms a Rum Punch or Daiquiri completely. Unforgettable.

You can't call yourself a rum enthusiast without having a bottle of Wray & Nephew. The pot still character is magnificent — banana, mango, pineapple, a mineral funkiness that's addictive. At 63% a small pour goes a long way. Makes the best Rum Punch you'll ever taste.

Yes, it's funky and fruity and intensely powerful. But at 63% the alcohol heat can overwhelm the more subtle flavours. I prefer it in a Rum Punch where the fruit juice and ice tame the beast. Neat, it's a bit of an ordeal unless you're experienced.

Wray & Nephew is more than a rum — it's the national spirit of Jamaica. Every birthday, every party, every domino game. The funky, fruity, ferociously strong character is unlike anything else. The banana and tropical fruit explosion at 63% is genuinely life-changing. Nothing else compares.

I use this as a flavour enhancer — a quarter-ounce added to any rum cocktail brings Jamaican funk and fire. The banana, tropical fruit, and pot still character are so concentrated at 63% that a little goes a very long way. Every home bar needs a bottle.
