First Impressions
Saloon Cask takes the Cashcane concept and dials it up. The same blend of Barbados, Trinidad, and Panama rums aged six to eight years, but bottled at 55% ABV instead of 40%. The extra strength transforms the experience — the buttery, sweet character of the Extra Old gains power and intensity.
Tasting Notes
The nose is richer and more intense than the Extra Old. Butter and brown sugar dominate, with dried tropical fruit and oak char adding depth. Vanilla and cinnamon heat signal the higher proof.
On the palate, the power is immediately apparent. Buttery sweetness hits with intensity, followed by brown sugar richness and oak char depth. Tropical fruit provides the rum identity, and cinnamon spice builds warmth. It's full-bodied and intense — a different experience from the more accessible Extra Old.
The finish is long, with buttery warmth and oak char persisting alongside brown sugar sweetness.
How to Drink It
A splash of water opens this up beautifully, revealing tropical fruit and reducing the heat. Also makes a powerful Old Fashioned with real presence. The 55% means it works brilliantly in cocktails where lesser rums would disappear.
The Bottom Line
Cashcane Saloon Cask earns a 7 — the extra strength adds dimension and power to the Cashcane profile. At £49.50, the higher ABV means better value per unit of flavour. Recommended for those who tried the Extra Old and wanted more intensity.
