First Impressions
This Clarendon MBS marque was distilled in 2014 and aged for ten years before being bottled by Habitation Velier for the Magnum Photography Series #2. The label and presentation box feature artwork by Alex Webb, a member of Magnum Photos, but the star is the liquid — a punchy Jamaican rum at 60% ABV.
Tasting
The nose is bold and tropical. Overripe banana and mango lead — classic Clarendon markers — with tropical funk and aged oak adding depth. The character is punchy and immediately engaging.
The palate is punchy and tropical. Overripe banana and mango form the core, Jamaican funk adds personality, oak spice provides structure, and dark chocolate adds depth. At 60%, the texture is full-bodied and assertive, demanding attention.
The finish is long with tropical fruit, oak, and a persistent Jamaican funk.
The Bottom Line
At £140, Clarendon 2014 MBS offers serious Jamaican quality with artistic presentation. The MBS marque's banana and mango character is in full effect, and the ten years of ageing have added genuine complexity. Excellent value for a cask strength, Velier-selected Jamaican rum.
